Astro Doings September 2013

Hi Everyone

I can’t believe I’m writing about celestial doings for September.  Wasn’t it just March when we were anticipating the Vernal Equinox?  Now it’s time for the Autumnal Equinox.  Hard to believe.

Hope you all had a wonderful August.  September promises to provide some interesting planetary line- ups.

Planetary Relationships

Mars/Saturn: Mars is in a challenging relationship with Saturn for the whole month. Both of these planets are considered to be male indicators in a chart, Jung’s animus.  Mars is impulsive, action-oriented, assertive, and reckless. He is the god of war. (Syria, anyone?) Mars is currently in Leo, a fire sign and is rather happy there.  Fire can be impulsive; it can warm but out of control it can destroy – e.g. the fires in the West.  Saturn is not impulsive at all; it’s old age, wisdom, fear, restriction, and lack.  Saturn always considers its next move carefully before taking it. It’s in Scorpio right now, which is a water sign.  I don’t think I need to explain that water and fire don’t get along very well and yet these two planets have to figure it out, as it were.  A time for tempered (Saturn) enthusiasm and action (Mars).  Those of us with planets from 0 to 10 degrees in Leo, Aquarius, Scorpio, Taurus, Aries, Sagittarius could be more influenced by this relationship of Mars and Saturn.  Aries and Sagittarius people could be inclined to be more impulsive and reckless.  Scorpio, Taurus and Aquarius folks might tend to hold back and stay where they are, figuratively speaking.

Venus/Saturn:  Venus enters Scorpio on September 11 and will be right next to (conjunct) Saturn for the rest of the month.  One way we might deal with this is restricting (Saturn) our own love nature (Venus).  Or we could release our fears (Saturn) about being loving and being loved (Venus).  These two planets also bring into balance our masculine (Saturn) and feminine (Venus) sides.  Again, the water signs and other fixed signs at early degrees (see above) will tend to be more sensitive to this conjunction.

Saturn/Pluto:  The planet of fear, restriction and structure (Saturn) is in a relationship with the planet of deep-seated transformation, subconscious fears, manipulation and power (Pluto) all month.  The relationship between them is call a “sextile” and it represents opportunity.  It is a relatively easy flow of energy between the water sign of Scorpio where Saturn is and the earth sign Capricorn where Pluto is.  I talked last month about Pluto and Saturn being in “mutual reception” which means each is in the sign that the other rules.  This increases the opportunity for us to engage in deep-seated change (Pluto) of those structures (Capricorn) that no longer serve us or that hold us back with perception and intuition (Scorpio) and build new structures (Saturn) that serve us better.   The planets will be right next to each other, which makes this relationship feel “stronger,” on September 20th.  To further draw our attention energetically to this opportunity Pluto will change directions (go direct) on September 20.  Pluto will basically stop at 9 degrees Capricorn and sit there for 9 days until he finally gets going again.  Attention all of us – but particularly those with planets in early degrees (0 – 19) of earth signs (easy flow (trine): Taurus, Virgo) or other cardinal signs (more challenging (square): Cancer, Aries, and Libra).

 Sun/Moon

Of course, this is right before the Autumnal Equinox when the Sun enters the sign of balance (Libra), so Pluto will square the sun.  The Equinox occurs on Sunday, September 22nd at 4.44 p.m.  To emphasize the theme we have a new moon on September 5th at 13 degrees Virgo at 7:36 a.m.  Virgo is probably, along with Scorpio, one of the most misunderstood signs. This new moon represents a time of discernment, discrimination, and harvest – all key words for Virgo.  It’s a time of cutting away what keeps us from moving forward and doing the sacred work we are here to do – our soul’s intention.  Chiron opposes this new moon and this signifies an opportunity to deal with long-standing issues.  Chiron has a bridging energy – between the world of form (Saturn) and the higher mind (Uranus).  The new moon represents an opportunity for new beginnings.

The Harvest Moon occurs on September 19th at 26 degrees Pisces at 7:13 a.m.  Pisces is the sign of faith, Virgo the sign of discernment.  Where are we putting our faith?  Are we believing only what we see with our five senses (Virgo) or are we perceiving from our higher intuition (Pisces).  But we need the balance that Virgo brings so we don’t get lost in the illusion (Pisces).  Balance is key.

Have a great September!

Peace and abundant blessings,

Margaret
